When Pokémon Go was released, excitement ran high. While an estimated forty million of us downloaded the app, it took time for players to find the “best” Pokémon to catch. But as the hype died down, the app’s developer filed for bankruptcy, and the rest of the year was a blur of disappointment. However, we can all finally come together and celebrate the new year together, because the world of Pokémon is back, and you can finally expect to see a new release date as soon as the day after tomorrow.
A few days ago, I asked you guys to vote on which game I was going to review next – and the results were fairly close! In the end, it came down to two games, and they both had over 60% of the votes: Borderlands 2 and The Last Story. So, with your help, we’ve decided that I would be reviewing the former game, and the upcoming JRPG from Mistwalker. Why Borderlands 2? Well, the game made it onto every single list of the best games of 2012, and we’re hoping that it’s still the best game of the year – or at least one of them – by the end of the year. (And that’s if you can wait that long.)
It’s been a long while since the last time we had seen the mighty S Pen, but it was well worth the wait: the Galaxy Note 9 has finally been unveiled, with the new S Pen and an all new design that has been compared favorably to the iPhone X. The Galaxy Note 9 is the most powerful Samsung phone ever made, sporting the largest battery of any smartphone ever, and the company has also added an iris scanner to the phone’s default security features.
Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have been whistling in a big way: After nearly two years of silence, they’ve relaunched Elden Ring with George R.R. Martin.
In Elden Ring, we used all of our experience with Dark Fantasy and the Dark Souls action-RPG series to create a bold and classic evolution of the genre. We created a rich world with a great sense of scale, based on the story George R.R. Martin wrote for the game. Elden Ring is a world of mystery and danger waiting to be explored and discovered; a drama in which various characters reveal their secrets and ulterior motives. We sincerely hope you’ll enjoy experiencing it for yourself, said Hidetaka Miyazaki, director of FromSoftware, in a press release. I am pleased and excited to announce the release date of Elden Ring, a new game created by Mr. Miyazaki and Mr. George R.R. Martin, two authors I greatly admire and who have passionate fans around the world. I am very happy and excited to tell you about it. We will continue to develop Elden Ring, not only as a game, but also in many other ways to bring the worldview and charm of the game to our fans around the world. We look forward to your continued support, said Yasuo Miyakawa, President and CEO of Bandai Namco Entertainment. And here’s a review of the game by the publisher: The Golden Order has been destroyed. Rise, Dulled, and let grace guide you to harness the power of the Elder Ring and become the Elder Lord in the intervening realms. In the meanders, where Queen Marika rules the Eternal, the ring of Elden, source of Erdtree, has been destroyed. Marika’s descendants, all demigods, took possession of the fragments of the Ring of the Ancients, known as the Great Runes, and the frenzied glow of their newfound power led to war: Love at first sight. A war that meant giving up the Great Will. And now the commandments of grace are brought to the defiled, who have been rejected from the grace of gold and banished from the midlands. You, the dead who still live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the land beyond the misty sea to present yourselves before the Ring of Ages. And become an Elder Lord. […] Uncover the secrets of the power of the Elf Ring. Meet enemies with deep histories, characters with unique motivations that help or hinder you, and terrifying creatures. Elden Ring features sprawling fantasy landscapes and dark, intricate dungeons that blend seamlessly together. Travel on foot or horseback through a stunning world, alone or online with other players, and immerse yourself in grassy plains, sweltering marshes, winding mountains, terrifying castles, and other locations that will blow your mind on a scale never before seen in FromSoftware games. […] Create your character in FromSoftware’s exquisite RPG and determine your play style by experimenting with a variety of weapons, magical abilities, and skills found in the world. Engage in battle, taking out enemies one by one while remaining unnoticed, or call on your allies for help. You have a lot of options to decide how you want to handle exploration and combat. Elden’s ring will be on the 21st. January for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So, it’s a cross-gen game now. PlayStation 4 > PlayStation 5 upgrade and Xbox Smart delivery are included. (There is no age restriction in the Japanese trailer, but there is in the English version…) Source: Gematsu This game came out in 2015, but it had a troubled life. It was a port from the PS3, and had an annoying co-op mode that was poorly implemented. However, the game was decent, and the single player was fun, but there were some issues. In 2017, they were finally going to fix the bugs and improve the game, so we stayed tuned. However, I was surprised to see that the development team simply removed the co-op from the game, completely cutting out the annoyance. The game was released on June 19, 2017..
