Google Announces Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with Custom-Built “Tensor” SoC, Launching This Fall

Google has announced the very first smartphones to run the specially designed Tensor Processing Unit found in the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The new Pixel smartphones are the first to be powered by this custom-built chip, which will come alongside the company’s software platform, Android Q. Google says that this custom chip helps the company to “deliver a stunningly fast and fluid experience for users.”

Both new devices will have a top-of-the-line “Tensor” processor, which should perform 15 times faster than an A11 Bionic chip, which is used in current Pixel devices.

Google announces the new Pixel smartphones, based on the new Qualcomm-designed “transactional memory” (TM) processor. The Pixel phones are designed to deliver a smooth, responsive user experience, with the camera and photos being among the most notable and impressive parts.

Google has announced that two new Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, will be released this Fall, both of which will include a brand-new system-on-a-chip (SoC) dubbed the Google Tensor.

Google Tensor was designed to take the artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities of its next-generation Pixel devices to a whole new level and better run select tasks, such as computational photography models, to enable entirely new features and improve existing ones. It was custom built and crafted entirely in-house. Thanks to a new security core and the Titan M security module, Google’s new Tensor SoC adds extra levels of hardware protection.

Users may anticipate smartphones with stunning new materials and finishes (e.g., polished and matte aluminum), as well as a redesigned back camera strip that contains better sensors and lenses, when the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are officially released later this year. The strip was required because they were too large to fit inside a conventional square, according to Google.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will also run Android 12, Google’s newest and best operating system, which includes the company’s new Material You design language for more colorful aesthetics.
