The Halo TV show has been in the works for quite some time. The project was originally announced in 2015, and since then, it has undergone many modifications, including a switch from Showtime to Paramount+. ViacomCBS officials confirmed the show’s debut date in 2022 at the Television Critics Association’s summer tour in 2021.

Amblin Television (with Steven Spielberg producing) and 343 Industries were the initial producers of the show. Showtime ultimately ordered ten episodes after writers, producers, and directors came and left. The way Halo would integrate into Showtime’s programming has to be reconsidered.

ViacomCBS gained a new channel with the introduction of CBS Access/Paramount+. As Halo production proceeded, it was determined that such a big project would be best served by Paramount+. Star Trek has already gotten a boost from the streaming service. If Halo proves to be a success, it has the same potential for growth. Despite the move to Paramount+, Showtime will remain engaged.

Halo is one of our favorite games. It has a special place in our hearts. And it’s a nice match since we’re still working in the studio. As a result, we’ll be heavily engaged in the creative and production of it… But, in terms of its place in the Showtime world, it was always a bit of an oddball for us. We did an incredible job of infusing the series with the character drama that we’re renowned for. But, at the end of the day, it’s a huge, wide, big—tent spectacle, so it was a perfect match when Paramount+ was formed.

Look, we began working on Halo seven years ago, when there was no such thing as Paramount+ or even a hint of it. And it’d always been a strange fit, you know? ‘ What is Showtime’s point in talking about a video game, namely a first-person shooter video game, and incorporating it into their dramas? We worked very hard for all those years, as Jana said, to figure out how to make it work. But, you know, when Paramount+ came out, it felt like it was a better match. – Showtime Entertainment co-presidents Jana Winograde and Gary Levine
